Bernat Castillejo, flautista



Bernat Castillejo was born in Lleida in 1961. He studied music at the Sant Agustí Choir of Sabadell and at the Barcelona Conservatory. At the Conservatory, he was awarded the highest honours for flute and for chamber music. His flute teachers were Josep M. Llorens and Barbara Held.

In 1980 he was selected to play in the Youth and Music World Orchestra and performed in a series of concerts in Denmark and Belgium.

Bernat Castillejo widened his artistic training at the Orleans Conservatory (France) with the famous flutist and teacher Arlette Biget and obtained the highest award for flute.

He won the first prize at the National Permanent Competition of Youth and Music of Spain.

He collaborates with the mezzo-soprano Anna Ricci, performing sephardic and contemporary music as well as in recording various albums.

At the Vallès Symphony Orchestra (Orquestra Simfònica del Vallès), he was solo flutist from its inception in 1987 till 1994.

Some of the other orchestras in which he has performed as the solo flutist are: Orchestra Leos Janacek (Czech republic), the Vallès Symphony Orchestra, the Soloist Orchestra of Barcelona and the Municipal Band of Barcelona.

Additionally, he has played in numerous concerts of chamber music, performing at the Palau de la Música Catalana and in prestigious music festivals.

Another aspect of his musical experience has been his collaboration in the recording of soundtracks for movies and television series. He has participated in various recordings at TVE, TV3, Catalunya Música and Radio Nacional de España.

In addition to performing, Bernat Castillejo also teaches flute at the Music Conservatory of Sabadell.

The flute he plays was made by the French craftsman Michel Parmenon with gold keys.
