Anna Cazurra (1965)

foto a.cazurra Anna Cazurra began her musical training studying piano and violin at the Music Conservatory of Barcelona in Spain, and later also studied composition and orchestration. In 1988, she earned her Bachelor's Degree in Art History at the Universitat Autonoma of Barcelona. She was awarded her Ph.D. in 1993. Several prestigious musical institutions have commissioned her musical works, and both her musical compositions and her musicological activities have earned recognition and acclaim, both nationally and abroad. She has won major prizes and awards. Her compositional output includes works for piano, chamber ensembles, voice, orchestra and staged musical theater. In 2003, she was appointed Composer-Scholar in Residence at the City University of New York. In October of 2008, the Spanish Embassy in New York commissioned her to write the piano collection, Hesperia, that was premiered in October of the following year at Carnegie Hall. Anna's most recent issuances are four CDs. Two CDs are edited by "La mà de Guido": "Anna Cazurra. Hesperia, the complete works for piano," by pianist Albert Nieto and "Catalan String Quartets," that includes String Quartet No. 1, played by the Catalan Quartet Teixidor. The other two CDs are: Amb veu de dona. Catalan Arts Songs by Women Composers, and Miraba la noche el alma. Latin American Songs by Women Composers, both with works for soprano and piano based on poems by the Catalan writer Carles Duarte, played by por Patricia Caicedo and Nico Stavlos and edited by Mundo Arts Records.
